Serving the Selby District,
Together we can make a difference

LONDON MARATHON 2026
I’m incredibly proud to share that Selby Hands of Hope has secured 2 official charity places in the 2026 London Marathon – the world’s biggest one-day fundraising event. 🎉
In the 2024 event, over 39,000 charity runners raised an astonishing £73.5 million for more than 1,700 charities.
Major names like Macmillan Cancer Support raised over £2.1 million just from their teams.
But for small, local charities like ours, getting access to this platform is rare —
So yes, we only have 2 places, but we are genuinely grateful and see this as a massive opportunity to raise our profile and make a greater difference across Selby and the surrounding district.
🔑 A Long Time Coming
It’s taken years of chasing, pestering, and knocking on the right doors – but finally, we’ve broken through.
The London Marathon is now changing how places are distributed, and smaller grassroots charities like ours are finally being included. I couldn’t be prouder — and I want you to be part of this historic moment for SHOH.
💷 Fundraising That Reflects Who We Are
Each place costs the charity £400, and to help us cover that, there’s a £100 entry cost.
But unlike many big charities that ask runners to raise £2,500–£3,500, I’ve set a realistic and manageable fundraising target of £1,000.
🎯 This reflects the ethos of Selby Hands of Hope —
making opportunities accessible, inclusive, and supportive for ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
💸 And if you raise £1,500 or more, we’ll refund your entry fee.
🙏 With Huge Respect for the Big Charities
Let me be clear — this isn’t about competing with or criticising the big-name charities.
I’ve had the privilege of running the London Marathon and the Great North Run for some amazing causes, including:
Anthony Nolan, Macmillan, Crohn’s & Colitis UK, and Children with Cancer UK.
I’m grateful to every one of them for giving me the chance.
Now, I want to give that same chance to someone else — to run for a charity rooted in our own community, making an impact close to home.
🧠 Full Support, Every Step of the Way
If you’re worried about fundraising, please don’t be.
I’ll personally help you develop ideas, promote your events through our channels, and support you every step of the way.
You won’t just be running for SHOH — you’ll be running with us, and we’ll be with you from the first training session to the finish line on Sunday, 26th April 2026.
